The ACE Certificate in Language Program Management


The ACE Certificate in Language Program Management is designed for language professionals who are currently responsible for running a language program or who are looking to move into a management role in the future. While based solidly on theory, the course focuses on the practical applications of current management concepts, techniques and strategies.

Language education professionals can earn CEUs for completing the ACE Certificate in Language Program Mangement. The international standard for CEUs is one CEU for every 10 hours of professional development, therefore participants can earn 9 CEUs for successfully completing the course.  Please note that this is a general guideline and CEU standards may vary from one teaching context to the next.  It is your responsibility to check the CEU requirements for your specific teaching context.

Admission Requirements

The prerequisite for The ACE Certificate in Language Program Management is a strong interest in learning about current management techniques and concepts as applied to running a language program. Current employment as a language program manager is beneficial but not required. Qualifications for language teaching to either adults or children (English, French, Spanish, other languages) are also beneficial.



Course Content

The course is divided into six main sections:

  • Introduction
  • General Management
  • Human Resources
  • Finance
  • Marketing
  • Language Program Operations




Each of the modules in the ACE Certificate in Language Program Management is comprised of Lecture Notes and Task Journals. The Lecture Notes provide information on a particular topic. Participants then complete specific tasks related to the topic in order to process and personalize the information presented. Participants submit the Task Journals to their instructor on an ongoing basis throughout the course for feedback and assessment. The final grade is derived from the Task Journal marks and from a Personal Management Skill Development Plan that participants also complete as they work through the course.



Course Instructor

David siefker cropDavid Siefker started his ESL/EFL career teaching for 5 years in Japan. It was a wonderful and memorable time in his life, and when he returned home he wanted to continue working in that field. He was lucky enough to get a job in Toronto working as an Academic Director in an international career college which offered courses in teacher training, interpretation, Business English with co-op opportunities, and test-taking courses (IBT, TOEFL and TOEIC). He stayed there for 7 years and then moved on to teach EAP at the University of Guelph where he is currently a Lead Instructor. David finds language learning to be a fascinating process which is never the same for everyone, and he enjoys the challenge of trying to meet all of his diverse students' needs.
